While most people would be screaming from the rooftops if they won the lottery, a Tewantin man decided to do things a little differently.

The Australian lotto player certainly had time on his hands as he mulled the great news that he had won almost $1.5 million from a recent $25 million superdraw.

The Gold Lotto win took a leisurely walk on Sunday morning to purchase the newspaper and checked the lottery numbers. When he realised that he was $1,481,784.54 richer, he decided to wait for his wife to wake up before telling her the good news.

It then took the couple another two weeks before they decided to claim their prize.

Lotto Gold Winner Recalls Windfall

Recalling the day that he found out that he was a winner, the unnamed Gold Lotto winner from Tewantin, Oz said: "I went out and bought the Sunday paper the morning after the $25 million superdraw, and when I got home I decided to check the results."

"Well, those numbers just jumped off the page at me," he said. "I knew they were our numbers and we'd won."

"I then waited for my wife to wake up and when she did, she looked at me and said, 'What's wrong with you?' and I said, 'We've just won about $1.5 million!"

The man added that this was the first time in 30 years that those particular numbers came up.

The couple surprised their adult children with the good news and said that they will use most of it towards their retirement and do some work around their home.

A total of 17 Division 1 winning entries shared the March 23 Superdraw.

$15 Million Lottery Prize on Tuesday

On Tuesday, April 16th, Oz Lotto will be carrying a $15 million jackpot prize. Numbers are drawn from 45 balls and players need to choose 7 numbers from this range. Nine balls are drawn, with the first 7 being winning numbers, and the supplementary balls used to determine prizes in Divisions 2, 4 and 7.

The Oz Lotto offers 7 divisions of prizes, and to win the division 1 prize, players need to match all 7 winning numbers.

A division 2 prize is paid out if players match any 6 winning numbers and one of the two supplementary numbers, while a division 7 prize is won by matching any 3 main winning numbers and one of the supplementary numbers.
